Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Our mission is to preserve, expand, and promote an appreciation for stepping through professional performances and to educate, motivate, and inspire young people in and out of school through arts education programs that emphasize teamwork, commitment, and discipline.

A “Best Summer Camp” Finalist with Washington City Paper, Step Afrika!’s week-long summer camp for rising 4th to 12th graders will return to Arena Stage in 2026. Led by the multi-talented artists of Step Afrika!, our annual camp combines core Step Afrika! values of teamwork, commitment, discipline, and academic achievement with excellent performance. Immersing students in stepping through the creation of their own Step Show performance, Summer Steps with Step Afrika! is not to be missed!
