Sensory-Friendly Family Morning at Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon invites neurodivergent individuals and their families to join us for a sensory-friendly morning and tour.

Before your visit: 

  • Prior to your visit, you will receive materials via email to prepare you and your family for your time at Mount Vernon. 
  • Please familiarize yourself with our accessibility page. Furthermore, as part of the Mansion Revitalization Project, parts of the Mount Vernon Estate are currently under construction. While noise will be minimal during this program, please see this page for more information on what is currently being done. 

During Your Visit: 

  • Upon arrival, guests will receive a sensory bag (while supplies last). 
  • Explore the Historic Area with a special self-guided tour. 
  • Explore the Mansion at your own pace. 
    • Note: some areas of the Mansion are currently closed for revitalization. 
  • Visit the Discovery Cart for hands-on lesson about the role of archaeology at Mount Vernon. 
  • A take-a-break room will be available from 8 a.m. to 9a.m.
