DC Day of Archaeology Festival

Local families are invited to discover the past and learn about the clues under our feet at the DC Day of Archaeology Festival, a free, family-friendly event on June 6 that brings history to life through hands-on activities.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Hosted by Archaeology in the Community, the annual DC Day of Archaeology Festival gathers archaeologists and other heritage-related professionals from across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region to share the stories, science, and discoveries that shape our understanding of the past. Taking place as part of DC Archaeology Month in June, the festival offers a full day of engaging experiences designed especially for kids and families. Attendees can:

  • Explore artifacts and tools
  • Make crafts and engage with demonstrations
  • Meet with real archaeologists and hear stories from local digs
  • Enjoy music from a live DJ
